The British rating agency Times Higher Education (THE) has published its annual "World University Rankings 2025", which includes a record number of Ukrainian universities – 17 higher education institutions from different cities of the country. This is an important achievement for Ukrainian education, as this ranking is considered one of the most authoritative in the world. In total, this year's ranking evaluated the activities of 2095 universities from 115 countries.
"The Times Higher Education World University Rankings" is one of the most recognised and objective university rankings in the world, based on 18 performance indicators combined into five main categories, including:
- educational activities;
- research environment;
- quality of research;
- cooperation with industry;
- international openness.
To compile the ranking, more than 157 million citations and 18 million scientific publications from the Scopus database were analysed, and more than 93 thousand scientists from around the world were surveyed.
This year, 17 Ukrainian universities were included in the prestigious list. Among them are both institutions that were previously included in the World University Rankings and new entrants. This demonstrates the continuous improvement of the quality of Ukrainian higher education and scientific achievements.
Recognition has been given to such reputable institutions as Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, National Technical University Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute and others.

Sumy State University was included in the group of universities ranked in the 801-1000 range, which is a great achievement. Other Ukrainian universities were placed in the 1501+ category.
The universities included in the ranking for the first time are: Bogomolets National Medical University, I. Mechnikov Odesa National University and Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.
These statistics not only underline the high level of Ukrainian higher education, but also strengthen Ukraine's position in the global academic arena, opening up new opportunities for international cooperation in education and science.
