Applicants in 2024 can receive grants to cover part of the cost of studying for bachelor's or doctoral programmes. Who can receive a grant, and what is its amount?
In 2024, prospective students enrolling in contractual education have a unique opportunity to receive financial support in the form of a state grant. The relevant decision was developed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Economy. A student can partially cover the cost of studying at any bachelor's degree programme or medical training programme.
State grant for students
Prospective students who will be studying for the first time on a contractual basis can apply for a grant.
Who can receive a grant?
- An applicant for a bachelor's degree (or master's degree in medicine, veterinary medicine, or pharmacy) after high school or college.
- An applicant for full-time or dual form of study on a contract.
- An applicant whose NMT (national multi-subjects test) results in any two subjects are at least 150 points (first-level grant) or at least 170 points (second-level grant).
The amount of the state grant for applicants
- applicants who receive 150 or more points in any two subjects at the NTM can apply for a grant of UAH 15,000;
- for those who have scored 170 or more points in any two subjects, a second-level grant of UAH 25,000 is provided.
It is important to note that the amount of the grant may be higher (multiplied by the appropriate coefficient), depending on the chosen speciality.
It should be emphasised that some specialities do not have a first-level grant, only the second (i.e. for applicants with at least 170 points in at least two subjects).
The grant is issued for a year to cover part of the tuition fee.
How to get a state grant?
1. Choose a priority higher education institution and a suitable study programme through your electronic application centre.
We advise you to read the contract price for the chosen programme to assess how much of it can be covered by the grant. If the applicant meets the conditions for receiving a grant, a notification will appear in his or her electronic account.
2. After successful enrolment in the chosen programme, apply for a grant through your electronic account in the Unified State Electronic Database on Education (USEDE).
After the application is processed, you will be notified of the grant for the first year of study and the amount of the grant. Please note that the grant is provided for the entire period of study, but payments are made twice a year.
3. After your grant application is approved, you will need to go through electronic identification and authentication through the "Diia" mobile application and select the grant service in this application.
Next, you will need to open an account with a special mode of use in one of the banks of Ukraine for the purpose of transferring the grant.
4. If the applicant is a minor, the request for a state grant must be submitted by one of the parents or legal guardians.
The funds received in the form of a grant can only be used to pay for tuition at the higher education institution with which the relevant contract has been signed.
The deadline for grant applications is 5 September to 31 October 2024.
This pilot project to provide state grants for higher education will help develop approaches for the further implementation of such grants at the legislative level.
