Taking into account the increased interest in postgraduate studies in 2024, it was decided to introduce some changes to the admission to the third level of higher education. What changes have been made?
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has adopted a number of changes and updated the rules for admission to the third level of higher education. These measures were introduced in response to the increased interest in postgraduate studies in 2024. Today, we will review the adopted changes. The changes are updated in accordance with the Procedure for Admission to Bachelor's, Master's, Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Arts Degrees in 2024.
The main changes for postgraduate studies in 2024
- Full-time study on a contract basis has been cancelled. Admission to full-time study on a contract basis is no longer possible.
- Admission to the evening or part-time form. Admission to postgraduate studies on a contract basis is now possible only for evening or part-time study.
- Changes in the rules for resuming studies. The rules for resuming postgraduate studies have been adjusted.
- Admission only by state order. Admission is carried out exclusively by state order.
- Increase in the number of budget places. The number of state-funded places will be doubled to 7000.
- Inaccessibility of transfer to full-time education. Transfer from other forms of study to full-time study will not be available.
- Terms of renewal of full-time study. Resumption of full-time study is allowed only to persons who are not liable for military service, as well as other categories who are legally allowed to interrupt their studies (pregnancy, military service, doctors, etc.).
A total of 91,561 people applied for postgraduate studies, which is an absolute record. It is worth noting that newly minted contract postgraduates will NOT receive a deferral.
The special order was issued on the basis of special powers by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the period of martial law.
In 2024, the Common Entrance Examination (CEE) will be mandatory for postgraduate studies. The passing score for the General Educational Competence Test (GECT) is 160. At the same time, passing a foreign language exam is NOT mandatory for admission to postgraduate studies.
For those who entered postgraduate studies in 2022 and 2023, everything remains the same. However, a Unified State Exam is planned for the end of 2024. The test will be taken by those who entered in 2022, as postgraduate studies involve improving knowledge of English or another foreign language.
Postgraduate studies are an important stage in the development of the scientific sphere of Ukrainian education. It is aimed at deepening research achievements and developing scientists. This process ensures the right to education and preserves the legitimacy of postgraduate students.
