Grants of the President of Ukraine for young scientists and doctors of sciences: new contest announced

The Scientific Council of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine has announced the launch of a competitive selection of research projects for grants from the President of Ukraine. This competition aims to support young scientists, doctors of sciences and doctoral students by providing them with the opportunity to receive funding for research and development.


Several categories of participants are allowed to participate in the competition for grants from the President of Ukraine, including:

  • young scientists-doctors of science (under 40 years old);
  • young doctoral students (up to 35 years old);
  • candidates of Sciences (up to 35 years old). 


Separate competitions have been announced for each of these groups. This approach avoids subjectivity in the selection of researchers and helps ensure equal conditions for all participants.

Grants can be awarded both for new research and for continuing previously launched projects. This allows scientists to receive the necessary financial support to complete their research, which will contribute to the development of various scientific fields in Ukraine. 

 

Main areas for competitive projects

The competitions cover the priority areas of scientific and technological development of Ukraine, which, according to the Law of Ukraine "On Priority Areas of Science and Technology Development" include:

  1. National security and defence – research related to improving the security and defence system of the state.
  2. Fundamental research – study of the most important problems of development of scientific, technical, socio-economic, socio-political and human potential to ensure Ukraine's competitiveness in the world and sustainable development of society and the state.
  3. Information and communication technologies – development of new methods and tools for processing, storing and transmitting information, including both data processing and communication channels.
  4. Energy and energy efficiency – research in the field of alternative energy sources and energy saving technologies.
  5. Environmental management – projects that promote sustainable development and protection of natural resources.
  6. Life sciences, new technologies for disease prevention and treatment – innovative methods in medicine, biotechnology, and healthcare.
  7. New substances and materials – development of new materials that can be used in various industries.

Application deadlines 

For young scientists with a doctorate (up to 40 years old), for doctoral students (up to 35 years old) and for doctors of philosophy (up to 35 years old):

 

  • Application deadline: 27 January 2025, 00:01 (Kyiv time);
  • Application deadline: 28 February 2025, 23:59 (Kyiv time).


For Doctors of Sciences (up to 45 years old):

 

  • Application deadline: 21 January 2025, 00:01 (Kyiv time);
  • Application deadline: 20 February 2025, 23:59 (Kyiv time).


Summing up the results

The winners will be determined and the results of the competition will be announced by 15 July 2025. The winners will receive funding to implement their research ideas, which can significantly contribute to the development of their projects and Ukrainian science in general.


This competition is a good opportunity for young scientists and researchers to receive financial support for innovative and meaningful research. Grants from the President of Ukraine provide scientists with a chance to implement their projects, thereby contributing to the development of science and solving urgent scientific and technological problems in Ukraine.
